A JOINT RESOLUTION TO NAME THE BRIDGE TO BE BUILT REPLACING THE JOHN P. GRACE
BRIDGE AND THE SILAS N. PEARMAN BRIDGE IN CHARLESTON COUNTY THE "ARTHUR
RAVENEL, JR. BRIDGE" AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
SHALL ERECT SUCH SIGNS AS APPROPRIATE TO DESIGNATE AND NAME THE NEW BRIDGE
OVER THE COOPER RIVER AS THE "ARTHUR RAVENEL, JR. BRIDGE".

A JOINT RESOLUTION TO NAME THE BRIDGE TO BE BUILT REPLACING THE JOHN P. GRACE BRIDGE AND THE SILAS N. PEARMAN BRIDGE IN CHARLESTON COUNTY THE "ARTHUR RAVENEL, JR. BRIDGE" AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHALL ERECT SUCH SIGNS AS APPROPRIATE TO DESIGNATE AND NAME THE NEW BRIDGE OVER THE COOPER RIVER AS THE "ARTHUR RAVENEL, JR. BRIDGE".
Whereas, Senator Arthur Ravenel, Jr. is a distinguished member of the South Carolina General Assembly; and
Whereas, Senator Ravenel previously served in both the South Carolina House of Representatives and the South Carolina Senate before offering as a candidate for the United States Congress; and
Whereas, in 1987 Senator Ravenel was elected to the United States Congress where he served until 1995; and
Whereas, he is recognized by the business community and governmental leaders across the State for his dedicated efforts in improving the state's transportation network; and
Whereas, Senator Ravenel was instrumental in working with state and local officials to pass legislation to create the State Infrastructure Bank on which he now serves as a member; and
Whereas, through his dedicated efforts as a State Senator, he is helping to identify the necessary funding sources to expedite the building of a new bridge to replace the bridges over the Cooper River so that the citizens of this State may have better and safer access to our coastal regions. Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge
SECTION 1. The Department of Transportation is directed to name the new bridge to be built over the Cooper River in Charleston County, replacing the John P. Grace Bridge and the Silas N. Pearman Bridge, the "Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge". The Department of Transportation shall install appropriate markers or signs at places along the highway as the department considers advisable containing the words "Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge".
Time effective
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
