 DIRECTOR AT NORTH AUGUSTA HIGH SCHOOL IN NORTH AUGUSTA AND AT PRESBYTERIAN
 COLLEGE IN CLINTON.

TO COMMEND COACH CALHOUN F. "CALLY" GAULT OF CLINTON FOR OVER FORTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS THE HEAD COACH AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT NORTH AUGUSTA HIGH SCHOOL IN NORTH AUGUSTA AND AT PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE IN CLINTON.

Whereas, Coach Calhoun F. "Cally" Gault of Clinton was born the son of Marvin G. and Virginia Gault in Bamberg on December 22, 1928, moved to Greenville with his family in 1930, and attended Greenville High School, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball and serving as Student Body President; and

Whereas, upon graduation, he attended Presbyterian College from 1944 until 1948, again lettering in football and baseball and serving as a Second Lieutenant in the ROTC Program and later receiving his Masters of Education from the University of South Carolina in 1956; and

Whereas, he married Joy Y. Godfrey on June 21, 1949, and the couple enjoyed raising their three children, Joy Gault Gruber, Emmie Ann Gault McLean, and Calhoun (Cal) F. Gault, Jr., now deceased, and their five grandchildren, Kimberly Gruber, Lynn Gruber, Melissa McLean, Elizabeth Ann McLean, and Thomas McLean; and

Whereas, Coach Cally Gault began his impressive football coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Mullins High School from 1948 to 1950 and then as an Assistant Coach at North Augusta High School from 1950 to 1951; and

Whereas, consistent with his love of this country and his devotion to duty, he interrupted his coaching and teaching career to honorably serve his nation in the United States Army from 1951 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict; and

Whereas, upon his return from military service, Coach Gault was selected to become the Head Coach at North Augusta High School, and he was later chosen to serve as the Athletic Director of that school, leading the North Augusta "Yellow Jackets" from 1952 to 1963 to a record of 88 wins, 14 losses, and 7 ties; and

Whereas, during his time at North Augusta, he captured three State Championship Titles, had a 42-game winning streak, and was named the Head Coach of the Shrine Bowl in 1957; and

Whereas, in 1963, Coach Gault became the Head Coach and Athletic Director at Presbyterian College in Clinton and served as Head Coach there until 1984, leading his teams to a combined record of 127 wins, 102 losses, and 8 ties and continuing on as Athletic Director until 1995; and

Whereas, during his tenure, the "Blue Hose" of Presbyterian College won two and tied for two Carolina Conference Championships, won the SAC-8 Title in 1979, and tied for the conference crown in 1978; and

Whereas, Coach Gault received the prestigious honors of South Carolina Coach of the Year five times and the Carolina Conference Coach of the Year twice; and

Whereas, Coach Gault has been honored by receiving the Order of the Palmetto in 1984 by Governor Dick Riley and a Doctor of Public Service in 2000 by Presbyterian College and by being named to the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame, the Greenville High School Hall of Fame, and the Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award Foundation Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, the former players and team managers, affectionately known as "Cally's Boys," of North Augusta High School, have set aside the days of May 2 and 3 of 2003 as a reunion-weekend to express their deeply felt love and devotion for Coach Gault and to present a bronze bust of Coach Gault to him and the citizens of North Augusta as a permanent monument honoring his contributions and influence during his time as Head Coach and Athletic Director; and

Whereas, Coach Gault's greatest contribution to this State has not only been as a coach, but also as a teacher, mentor, counselor, and friend to the hundreds of young people who knew him over his forty years of unwavering service; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations and take this opportunity to express their sincere appreciation to Coach Gault for his years of loyal and selfless service to North Augusta High School, Presbyterian College, and the people of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to commend Coach Calhoun F. "Cally" Gault of Clinton for over forty years of outstanding service as the Head Coach and Athletic Director at North Augusta High School in North Augusta and at Presbyterian College in Clinton.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be delivered to Coach Cally Gault of Clinton.
