H. 4991

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE NATION FORD HIGH SCHOOL MARINE CORPS JROTC FOR CAPTURING THE TOP THREE FINISH POSITIONS IN THE 2022 MARINE CORPS JROTC NATIONAL RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TO CONGRATULATE THESE FINE SHOOTING PreviousATHLETESNext AND THEIR COACH ON A SUPERB SEASON.

Whereas, focused and ready for the challenge, the Nation Ford High School Marine Corps JROTC rifle teams competed at the 2022 Marine Corps JROTC National Rifle Championships, held February 2-6, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona, and carried away the top three finish positions; and

Whereas, after more than two thousand Marine cadets competed in the qualification round, eighteen teams and eighty-eight PreviousathletesNext were invited to compete at the national championships in Phoenix. Nation Ford High School is the first and only team ever to qualify three teams to compete. The Falcons finished first, third, and sixth place; and

Whereas, the top seven teams are invited to compete at the All-Service JROTC National Championships in Camp Perry, Ohio, to be held March 16-20, 2022, against the Army, Air Force, and Navy teams. Nation Ford is the first school ever to have three teams qualify to compete at the All-Service championships; and

Whereas, in Phoenix, Nation Ford's A team established the largest margin of victory of 177 points, outcompeting the second-place team, Palm Bay Magnet High School of Florida. It was the team's forty-sixth national championship team title since its first national rifle team title in 2015. The team has won the Marine Corps JROTC national championships for the past seven consecutive years, an accomplishment no other team in the nation has matched; and

Whereas, individually, Nation Ford's top PreviousathletesNext finished first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh place. In so doing, Nation Ford became the first school to sweep the top three finish positions in the history of these championships; and

Whereas, additionally, Kyle Orr set a new Marine Corps JROTC National Standing Record when he fired a 189-9X out of a possible 200. This is the twentieth national record set by Nation Ford shooting PreviousathletesNext since 2015. Further, Samantha Zermeno achieved Civilian Marksmanship Program Distinguished Expert status at the national championships. She is Nation Ford's twenty-second shooting PreviousathleteNext to reach this milestone; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands control, discipline, concentration, and precision, Colonel Sean Mulcahy, the teams' coach, maximized his own skills and experience to produce championship-caliber teams and teach his shooting PreviousathletesNext lessons that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the shooting PreviousathletesNext of the Nation Ford High School Marine Corps JROTC for leading with excellence, both in the classroom and on the court, and the members expect to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Nation Ford High School Marine Corps JROTC for capturing the top three finish positions in the 2022 Marine Corps JROTC National Rifle Championships and congratulate these fine shooting Previousathletes and their coach on a superb season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Chris Chandler and Colonel Sean Mulcahy of Nation Ford High School.
