Whereas, club sports are student-initiated and student-governed programs that provide an opportunity for students to enhance their collegiate experience through intercollegiate PreviousathleticNext competitions; and

Whereas, club sports are also designed to help students develop leadership, financial, and organizational management skills through the opportunity to create, organize, and manage their own club sport; and

Whereas, the National Club Baseball Association involves teams and players from over one hundred twenty colleges around the nation competing in twenty-four conferences for an opportunity to play in the NCBA World Series; and

Whereas, the members of the Clemson Club Baseball team were responsible for organizing and recruiting members, electing officers, raising funds, purchasing equipment, and scheduling opponents, travel, and facilities; and

Whereas, the Clemson Club Baseball team had a successful 2008 season by achieving a 20-5 record and winning the South PreviousAtlanticNext East Conference championship, and earning a berth in the South PreviousAtlanticNext Regional Tournament; and

Whereas, the Clemson Club Baseball team culminated their season in the tournament and exemplified the ideal PreviousathleticNext spirit by playing forty-five innings of baseball in thirty-two hours, and forcing the championship to a two-out, bases-loaded, bottom-of-the-ninth situation in the fifth and final game; and

Whereas, Scott Bagwell of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Michael Banks of Townville, South Carolina, Matthew Bedenbaugh of Lexington, South Carolina, James Copeland of Clinton, South Carolina, Justin Coulston of Charleston, South Carolina, James Cox of Garden City, South Carolina, Wilson Cropp of Charlottesville, Virginia, Joseph Dever of Aiken, South Carolina, Ryan DiMauro of Boca Raton, Florida, John Epting of Chapin, South Carolina, Derek Frick of Little Mountain, South Carolina, James Hall of Clover, South Carolina, Earnest Johnson of PreviousAtlantaNext, Georgia, Willie Jones of Richmond, Virginia, Will Krause of Wauchula, Florida, Robert Lindler of Livingston, South Carolina, James Lucas of Waynesboro, Virginia, James Mazowieski of Mountain Home, Idaho, Ryan Norris of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Chad Rainwater of Columbia, South Carolina, Kevin Segal of Marietta, Georgia, Brennan Shutt of Plymouth, Minnesota, Wylie Simpson of Lancaster, South Carolina, and Matthew Stark of Somers, Connecticut, brought honor and respect for their team and college through their dedication and determination; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting that the members of the House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to recognize this outstanding group of students for their accomplishments and drive to succeed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the 2008 Clemson Club Baseball team on their achievements this season including winning the South PreviousAtlantic East Conference Championship and offer best wishes to the members of the team in all their future endeavors.
