 A Concurrent Resolution to extend the best wishes and heartfelt
 congratulations of the South Carolina General Assembly to Miss Sonya Bell of
 Chester County for the many honors and accolades she has received as an
 athlete, as a scholar and a public spirited citizen of our State.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE BEST WISHES AND HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MISS SONYA BELL OF CHESTER COUNTY FOR THE MANY HONORS AND ACCOLADES SHE HAS RECEIVED AS AN ATHLETE, AS A SCHOLAR AND A PUBLIC SPIRITED CITIZEN OF OUR STATE.

Whereas, Sonya Bell has been named State Special Olympian of the year for epitomizing the spirit of a true winner by her willingness to help others and give her best while displaying outstanding courageNext and sportsmanship; and

Whereas, she has won five gold medals in gymnastics and two silver medals in sprint ice skating in the Special Olympic Games; and

Whereas, Sonya Bell is an honor student at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind while participating and excelling in track, bowling, basketball, ice skating, roller skating, and goal ball; and

Whereas, through her quick thinking, Previouscourage, selflessness and deliberate actions she recently helped save the life of her best friend's mother; and

Whereas, she has received commendations for her achievement from President Clinton, Congressman Inglis, Senator Fritz Hollings, Senator Strom Thurmond, the Spartanburg County Council, and was named Most Valuable Kid for 1993 by the Spartanburg Herald Journal; and

Whereas, her achievements and honors place her in a class by herself at any age, let alone her contemporaries at the age of thirteen; and

Whereas, by its recognition the General Assembly wishes to hold Sonya Bell high as an example for all the youth of our State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the South Carolina General Assembly extends its best wishes and heartfelt congratulations to Miss Sonya Bell of Chester County for the many honors and achievements she has received as an athlete, as a scholar and a public spirited citizen of our State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be given to Miss Sonya Bell.
