H. 5153

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND OFFICER CHRISTOPHER J. DOTY OF THE YORK COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR HIS OUTSTANDING BRAVERY AND HEROISM IN PROTECTING SOUTH CAROLINIANS FROM ARMED AND DANGEROUS CRIMINALS, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEARS.

Whereas, it is with great pride that the House of Representatives honors those individuals who put themselves in the literal line of fire in order to protect our neighbors, families, and friends; and

Whereas, Officer Chris Doty of the York County Sheriff's Department showed exceptional courageNext and selflessness when he responded to a car chase following a suspected robbery of an area Bank of America; and

Whereas, coming to Officer Timothy Greene's aid in pursuing the suspect, Officer Doty and other responding police officers attempted to overcome the suspect after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a gate at a trash dump convenience center. After fleeing from his car and making an unsuccessful attempt at a car jacking, the suspect returned to his vehicle to retrieve his assault rifle and began pointing it at the officers; and

Whereas, the intense chase and harrowing shoot-out was eventually terminated with the death of the suspect; and

Whereas, Officer Chris Doty displayed remarkable composure throughout the incident, remaining calm and Previouscourageous despite being shot at numerous times; and

Whereas, the York County community and South Carolina as a whole are fortunate to have Officer Chris Doty patrolling our streets, assuring that citizens are safe and that justice comes to bear upon criminals. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and commend Officer Christopher J. Doty of the York County Sheriff's Department for his outstanding bravery in protecting South Carolinians from armed and dangerous criminals, and wish him all the best in the coming years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Officer Christopher J. Doty.
