S. 606

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

HONORING THE RECIPIENTS OF THE MEDAL OF HONOR AND ENCOURAGING THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR SOCIETY TO HOLD ITS ANNUAL CONVENTION IN CHARLESTON IN 2009.

Whereas, throughout our country's history, courageousNext men and women have answered the call to protect and defend liberty, justice, and the freedoms we hold so dear; and

Whereas, at the risk of serious bodily injury or death, a brave and Previouscourageous few have displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty and have distinguished themselves as heroes in the eyes of their comrades through their self-sacrifice; and

Whereas, the Congress of the United States by Senate Bill Number 82, signed into law on December 21, 1861, by President Abraham Lincoln, authorized what is now known as the Medal of Honor, the highest award given to the members of our country's military forces in recognition of their awe-inspiring valor during armed conflict; and

Whereas, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, now consisting of a unique brotherhood of 112 living recipients, is considering an invitation to hold its 2009 Convention in Charleston, South Carolina; and

Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, on behalf of its citizens, wishes to pay tribute to these heroes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, on behalf of the people of this great State, by this resolution, do hereby honor the recipients of the Medal of Honor and encourage the Congressional Medal of Honor Society to hold its annual convention in Charleston, South Carolina in 2009.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society
