A Concurrent Resolution recognizing and thanking Mr. Lawrence B. (Larry)
Miller of Anderson County for his outstanding contributions to the economic
development and well-being of his community.

04/04/91 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence
A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND THANKING MR. LAWRENCE B. (LARRY)
MILLER OF ANDERSON COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND
WELL-BEING OF HIS COMMUNITY.
Whereas, Mr. Lawrence B. (Larry) Miller of Anderson County was born
in Halstead, Kansas and graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with
a degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering; and
Whereas, his unique education of apprenticeship with General Electric,
combined with his degree from Purdue, gave him valuable insight into
the workings of the "real world"; and
Whereas, after more than thirty years of employment with General
Electric, he had the courage to go out on his own in the tool and dye
business for seven years; and
Whereas, foreseeing the recession of the 1980's he successfully sold his
company and joined Bosch; and
Whereas, his primary achievement with Bosch was the site selection and
start-up of the Anderson Facility. To date, his efforts have brought over
six hundred jobs to Anderson County and two other joint venture
companies, AUTECS and AFCO, and, with his guidance and assistance,
all three operations have been extremely successful; and
Whereas, in the community, his personal efforts were chiefly directed
toward continued county development and the success of Tri County
Tec in education for the needs of the county for the future; and
Whereas, he was chosen as 1989 Ambassador for Economic
Development in Anderson County; and
Whereas, he was appointed by Governor Campbell to the Anderson
County Workforce Excellence Initiative Business Roundtable for 1989,
1990, and 1991; and
Whereas, he has served on both the foundation board and the governing
board of Tri County Tec. His greatest contribution to Tri County Tec
was the introduction of perpetually endowed scholarships. A total of
nine hundred thousand dollars in thirty-seven scholarships will be
sustained from this point forward. Twenty-year growth of these funds
will yield seventy scholarships a year; and
Whereas, he retired from Bosch at the beginning of 1991 but has been
retained as a consultant and will continue to be active on Bosch's behalf
as well as the community's; and
Whereas, he is an outstanding businessman who is clearly devoted to the
economic success of his community and who has helped tremendously
to foster growth by his tireless efforts and many contributions of time,
talent, and energy; and
Whereas, his efforts are highly deserving of recognition and an
expression of deepest gratitude. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, recognizes and thanks Mr. Lawrence B. (Larry) Miller of
Anderson County for his outstanding contributions to the economic
development and well-being of his community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Miller and to Mr. Rusty Burns, Anderson County Planning and
Development Board, 126 North McDuffie Street, Anderson, South
Carolina 29621.
