A SENATE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING DR. ALBERT E. SMITH, FORMERLY THE
SIXTH PRESIDENT OF SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY,
ON BEING NAMED PRESIDENT OF FLORIDA MEMORIAL
COLLEGE.
Whereas, Dr. Albert E. Smith, formerly the sixth President of South
Carolina State University, recently was named President of Florida
Memorial College; and
Whereas, Florida Memorial College is a private, four-year, historically
Black institution of higher learning in Miami; and
Whereas, the board of trustees of the 114-year-old Baptist-related school
selected Dr. Smith from a distinguished field of five finalists; and
Whereas, this is a high honor and a special tribute to Dr. Smith, a man
of courage, vision, talent, and dedication, and we know that he will do
a splendid job in Florida and wish him well in his new endeavor. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution,
congratulates Dr. Albert E. Smith, formerly the sixth President of South
Carolina State University, on being named President of Florida
Memorial College.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr.
Smith.
