A HOUSE RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE THIRTY YEARS OF SERVICE OF GEORGE ALTON
SANDERS, NATIVE OF PENDLETON, SOUTH CAROLINA, IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY,
BEGINNING WITH HIS ASSIGNMENT TO THE 307TH CHEMICAL SMOKE GENERATOR COMPANY IN
GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, THE ONLY REMAINING ALL-BLACK RESERVE UNIT IN THE

01/27/99 House Introduced and adopted HJ-26

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE THIRTY YEARS OF SERVICE OF GEORGE ALTON SANDERS, NATIVE OF PENDLETON, SOUTH CAROLINA, IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY, BEGINNING WITH HIS ASSIGNMENT TO THE 307TH CHEMICAL SMOKE GENERATOR COMPANY IN GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, THE ONLY REMAINING ALL-BLACK RESERVE UNIT IN THE NATION.

Whereas, George Alton Sanders now lives in Massachusetts but is a native of Pendleton, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Sanders retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army after thirty years of service to his country; and

Whereas, that honorable service began after basic training at Fort Jackson with Mr. Sanders' assignment to the 307th Chemical Smoke Generator Company in Greenville, South Carolina; and

Whereas, that all-black Army reserve unit remains operational today, but is now the only all-black reserve unit still existing in the nation; and

Whereas, that unit was the doorway for many of this state's Negro citizens into distinguished and courageous careers of military service; and

Whereas, we wish to express to those soldiers our appreciation for their outstanding service to this State and nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives do hereby gratefully recognize the thirty years of service of George Alton Sanders, native of Pendleton, South Carolina, in the United States Army, beginning with his assignment to the 307th Chemical Smoke Generator Company in Greenville, South Carolina, the only remaining all-black reserve unit in the nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be given to Master Sergeant Sanders, Retired.
