A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING JONATHAN SIMS OF DARLINGTON COUNTY, SIXTH
GRADER AT BRUNSON-DARGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, FOR HIS HONESTY AND INTEGRITY AT
THE YOUNG AGE OF ELEVEN, AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON BEING NAMED A "HOME TOWN
HERO" BY THE "MORNING NEWS" OF FLORENCE.

03/09/99 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-11

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING JONATHAN SIMS OF DARLINGTON COUNTY, SIXTH GRADER AT BRUNSON-DARGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, FOR HIS HONESTY AND INTEGRITY AT THE YOUNG AGE OF ELEVEN, AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON BEING NAMED A "HOME TOWN HERO" BY THE MORNING NEWS OF FLORENCE.

Whereas, young Jonathan Sims is the eleven-year-old son of Whitfield and Eleanor Sims; Jonathan resides in Darlington and is a sixth grade student at Brunson-Dargan Elementary School; and

Whereas, Jonathan recently turned in to a school official a one hundred dollar bill he discovered outside his school; Jonathan said the reason he turned in the money (a substantial amount indeed) was that he knew it was not his; actually Ms. Susan Holmes, an art teacher at Jonathan's school, had dropped the bill and claimed it after Jonathan turned it in; Jonathan's act of honesty allowed Ms. Holmes to recover her money; and

Whereas, for his honesty, integrity, and determination not to compromise his values even in the face of criticism by his peers, Jonathan was honored as a "Home Town Hero" by the Morning News of Florence; he demonstrated genuine courage and strength of character in doing the right thing and is highly deserving of the honor bestowed upon him by the Florence newspaper; and his actions reflect very favorably upon his parents, who undoubtedly laid the groundwork long ago for their son's honesty; and

Whereas, we are greatly pleased to have the opportunity to recognize this outstanding young man for his values and fine character, and we know his act of integrity has made him a role model for many. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Jonathan Sims of Darlington County, sixth grader at Brunson-Dargan Elementary School, for his honesty and integrity at the young age of eleven and congratulates him on being named a "Home Town Hero" by the Morning News of Florence.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jonathan Sims.
