A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LEWISVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS FOR OVERCOMING SEVERAL ADVERSITIES TO WIN THE SOUTH CAROLINA CHEERLEADER COACHES ASSOCIATION CLASS A/AA STATE CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIP ON DECEMBER 15, 2000.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Lewisville High School cheerleaders who triumphed over adversity to win the Class A/AA State Cheerleading Championship on December 15, 2000, at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia; and

Whereas, the Lewisville High School cheerleaders encountered misfortune when one of their teammates broke a bone in her knee and was unable to participate. A cheerleader from the eighth grade learned the routine in two days to take her place; and

Whereas, the cheerleaders were already down because of the illness of their coach, Debbie Rogers, who was battling cancer and was unable to attend many of the practices. Debbie Rogers was an integral part of the team, and the team was moved by Debbie's courage in the face of suffering; and

Whereas, because of these circumstances, the Lewisville High School cheerleaders were apprehensive about competing in the state championship; and

Whereas, just before they were about to compete, Debbie Rogers came to the coliseum and took her place where the cheerleaders could see her mouth the calls. Debbie Rogers was determined to be there for the girls, and her presence motivated the Lewisville High School cheerleaders to win the state championship; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to publicly recognize and applaud the Lewisville High School cheerleaders for their truly inspiring victory. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Lewisville High School cheerleaders for overcoming several adversities to win the South Carolina Cheerleader Coaches Association Class A/AA State Cheerleading Championship on December 15, 2000.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Lewisville High School cheerleaders.
