A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING KATHLEEN WILSON OF CHARLESTON COUNTY ON
BECOMING THE FIRST SOUTH CAROLINIAN TO SWIM THE ENGLISH CHANNEL.

01/09/02 House Introduced, adopted, sent to Senate HJ-22
01/10/02 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-7

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING KATHLEEN WILSON OF CHARLESTON COUNTY ON BECOMING THE FIRST SOUTH CAROLINIAN TO SWIM THE ENGLISH CHANNEL.

Whereas, Kathleen Wilson of James Island, Charleston County, has become the first South Carolinian to swim the English Channel; and

Whereas, she accomplished this amazing feat of endurance and skill on August 25, 2001, one hundred twenty-six years to the day that Captain Matthew Webb became the first person to swim the channel; and

Whereas, while Captain Webb's crossing took more than twenty-one hours, Kathleen Wilson's crossing took only thirteen hours and ten minutes; and

Whereas, despite perfect weather conditions, Mrs. Wilson found herself locked in a real fight with a fierce current along the French shore during the final two hours of her swim; and

Whereas, Mrs. Wilson is a true South Carolina hero; this achievement is one for the Palmetto State's record books; all South Carolinians are proud of her, admire her, and salute her for her courage and great ability. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Kathleen Wilson of Charleston County on becoming the first South Carolinian to swim the English Channel.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Wilson.
