 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THOMAS F. RICHEY, SR., OF
 IRMO FOR HIS LIFETIME OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE AMERICAN LEGION AND TO WISH
 HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THOMAS F. RICHEY, SR., OF IRMO FOR HIS LIFETIME OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE AMERICAN LEGION AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to recognize Thomas F. Richey, Sr., for his lifetime of commitment and enthusiasm for the betterment of the American Legion and its many valuable projects; and

Whereas, Thomas F. Richey, Sr., was born in Anderson County on June 17, 1922, the seventh of thirteen children of George W. and Ettie Richey; and

Whereas, after his education in Anderson County public schools, Mr. Richey enlisted in the United States Army in 1940 and received his basic training at Fort Moultrie, South Carolina; and

Whereas, following a two-year period in Iceland, Thomas Richey was assigned to the 80th Infantry Battalion under General George Patton and fought in the invasion of Normandy and five major battles in France and Germany; and

Whereas, for his courage and valor, Mr. Richey received five campaign battle Bronze Stars, an Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Silver Star and was wounded three times; and

Whereas, after the war, Thomas Richey was honorably discharged and returned to Anderson County where he married Edna Williams; and

Whereas, during more than fifty-seven years of marriage, they have one son, Thomas F. Richey, Jr., one grandchild, and four great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Thomas Richey and his family moved to Columbia and worked as a Division Manager for Terminix and later organized Richey Exterminating Company which he owned and operated until he retired; and

Whereas, Mr. Richey has been a lifetime member of the American Legion for thirty-six years and has served in almost every facet of the organization on the local and state post level; and

Whereas, during his tenure as Post Commander, Mr. Richey was responsible for organizing the St. Andrews/Irmo Unit 174 Ladies Auxiliary, and he worked with George LeRoy and Congressman Floyd Spence to obtain a building from Fort Jackson that is now Post 174 Headquarters; and

Whereas, Mr. Richey has volunteered his time at Dorn Veterans Hospital, participated in the Washington, D.C., Conference on Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, and was named Legionnaire of the Year in 1992; and

Whereas, Thomas Richey has given his time to several other Veterans organizations, Dutch Fork Baptist Church, and many other worthy organizations; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to honor such a distinguished veteran and son of South Carolina as Thomas F. Richey, Sr., for his life-long dedication and service to the American Legion. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Thomas F. Richey, Sr., of Irmo for his lifetime of dedicated service to the American Legion and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Thomas F. Richey, Sr., of Irmo.
