A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND MASTER CHRIS HAAS, A SIXTH GRADE CAPTAIN OF
THE NORTH HARTSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL, FOR HIS HEROIC ACTIONS
THAT RESULTED IN SAVING THE LIFE OF A FELLOW STUDENT.

04/17/02 House Introduced, adopted, sent to Senate HJ-49
04/17/02 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-15

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MASTER CHRIS HAAS, A SIXTH GRADE CAPTAIN OF THE NORTH HARTSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL, FOR HIS HEROIC ACTIONS THAT RESULTED IN SAVING THE LIFE OF A FELLOW STUDENT.

Whereas, the North Hartsville Elementary School Safety Patrol members are adorned in safety orange hats and belts with silver badges that distinguish them as a group of important individuals; and

Whereas, they are on duty between 7:20 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year assisting students from the first grade through the sixth grade to safely enter and exit the campus from the motor vehicle drop-off area; and

Whereas, one morning in December of 2001, Chris Haas, a sixth grade captain of the safety patrol, had no idea he would become a hero by putting himself in harm's way to save the life of a fellow Hartsville Elementary School student; and

Whereas, on that day Chris jumped in front of a moving car whose back tire caught a fellow student's book bag and began pulling her under the tire. The student's shirt was caught under the tire before the driver could stop the car; and

Whereas, observers believe that had Chris not put his life and safety in jeopardy, the student would have suffered serious injury; and

Whereas, Chris's unselfish act of bravery in the face of certain danger qualifies him as a bona fide hero, which makes the members of the General Assembly especially proud to pause in their deliberations to recognize him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Master Chris Haas of the North Hartsville Elementary School Safety Patrol, for his remarkable acts of courage and bravery in the face of life-threatening danger when he risked his life to save the life of a fellow student.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Master Chris Haas of the North Hartsville Elementary School Safety Patrol.
