Whereas, she was sworn into the United States Navy delayed entry program on June 1, 1982, and began Basic Training in Orlando, Florida, shortly thereafter; and

Whereas, after completing her initial training, she was transferred to Millington, Tennessee, for Air Traffic Control "A" School and was then transferred to Naval Air Facility in Mayport, Florida, where she became qualified to serve as a tower supervisor; and

Whereas, Petty Officer Person served in Sigonella, Sicily, and then returned to the United States for duty as an Air Traffic Controller at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida; and

Whereas, though she was a skilled and invaluable Controller, Petty Officer Person decided to enter into a new field of work with the Navy and began to study cryptology; and

Whereas, she received her training at Cory Station in Pensacola, Florida, and was then transferred for cryptology collection duty in Diego Garcia. Her first assignment in this field was to gather intelligence at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station in Wahiawa, Hawaii; and
