A Bill to amend Section 59-29-30, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976,
relating to Alcohol and Narcotics Education Week in the public schools of this
State, so as to provide that an alcohol and drug abuse course must be taught
to all public school students in this State from the sixth grade upward, to
provide that the State Board of Education shall prescribe the contents of this
course and its duration, and to provide that the Department of Education in
conjunction with the Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse shall make personnel
available to teach this course in the schools of this State, and to amend
Article 1, Chapter 1 of Title 56, by adding Section 56-1-85 so as to provide
that on and after January 1, 1985, no type of driver's license or permit may
be issued to any first-time applicant under seventeen years old unless that
person has successfully completed the alcohol and drug abuse course required
above, and to provide certain exceptions.
