A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF FORMER STATE
SENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVE JOHN HENRY WILLIAMS OF
AIKEN COUNTY, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS
FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, former state Senate and Representative John Henry
"Hawkeye" Williams of Aiken County died on January 8,
1991, at the age of seventy-three; and
Whereas, he was born in Aiken and was a World War II Army Air Corps
veteran, serving as a captain and navigator in the China-Burma-India
Theater; and
Whereas, he was a graduate of Clemson and also graduated from the
University of South Carolina, where he received his law degree; and
Whereas, he was first elected to the South Carolina House of
Representatives in 1950, was a member of the South Carolina Senate
from 1952 to 1956, and served again in the House in the early 1970's;
and
Whereas, he was a distinguished lawyer in Aiken and served as Aiken
County attorney for several years; and
Whereas, he was an outstanding individual who was greatly respected
in the General Assembly during his years of service and was also much
admired and loved by the residents of Aiken County whom he
represented and served so well and faithfully during his career; and
Whereas, we would like his family and his many friends to know that
they are uppermost in our thoughts at this time and have our deepest
sympathy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, expresses sorrow at the death of former state Senator and
Representative John Henry Williams of Aiken County and extends
sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his
widow, Martha McKain Williams, at Aiken.
