A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO HONOR CAPTAIN DAVID NEWTON DENTON,
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE RICHLAND COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AND VETERANS AFFAIRS
OFFICER, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Captain David Newton Denton was Executive Director of
the Richland County Legislative Delegation and Veterans Affairs
Officer since July of 1983; and
Whereas, Captain Denton performed a wide range of administrative
and technical tasks for four senators and eleven representatives and
acted as a liaison with industry, local governments, and federal
agencies; and
Whereas, Captain Denton served tirelessly on various committees
and was chairman of the Department of Transportation Committee
for Richland County; and
Whereas, Captain Denton served admirably as a captain in the U.S.
Navy and attended the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School and the U.S.
Naval War College; and
Whereas, Captain Denton has written numerous distinguished
articles which have been published in highly regarded military
publications; and
Whereas, Captain Denton has conducted extensive research on
various topics dealing with the NROTC and naval officers for
Harvard University, the Chief of Naval Education and Training, and
the President of the Naval War College and Chief of Naval
Operations; and
Whereas, Captain Denton has been an accomplished professor of
undergraduate studies; and
Whereas, Captain Denton has received numerous military awards,
including the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal,
the United Nations Service Metal, the Vietnam Service Metal, and
the Meritorious Service Medal; and
Whereas, Captain Denton has received civilian merit awards from
the Federal Executive Council of New England, the Board of
Governors of the National Security Industrial Association, and an
Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation; and
Whereas, Captain Denton has served as a prominent and well-respected member of numerous professional and community
organizations throughout his life. Captain Denton was the National
Director, Chairman of the Board, President and Vice President of
the Navy League of the United States, Vice President of the Federal
Executive Council in Columbia, Chairman of the Federal Sector of
the United Way of New England, served as a member of the U.S.
Navy National Scholarship Board, and a member of the U.S. Naval
War College Foundation, VFW, American Legion, and the Retired
Officers Association. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly honor Captain David
Newton Denton, Executive Director of the Richland County
Legislative Delegation and Veterans Affairs Officer, on the occasion
of his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Captain David Newton Denton.
