05/30/95 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-47

A SENATE RESOLUTION

COMMENDING SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS OFFICER MICHAEL A. GREEN FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND BRAVERY WHILE PERFORMING HIS DUTIES DURING THE APRIL 17, 1995, DISTURBANCE AT THE BROAD RIVER CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN RICHLAND COUNTY.

Whereas, South Carolina Department of Corrections officer Michael A. Green bravely fought attacking inmates to defend a fellow officer who was seriously wounded during the April 17, 1995, disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution; and

Whereas, Officer Green's heroic actions allowed a fellow officer the opportunity to escape further injury; and

Whereas, while he also suffered serious injuries during the disturbance, Officer Green's concern for his fellow officers outweighed concerns for his personal safety. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate commend South Carolina Department of Corrections officer Michael A. Green for exceptional service and bravery while performing his duties during the April 17, 1995, disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution in Richland County.
