 CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. AUDREY MINTZ DAYSON OF CALHOUN COUNTY
 AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. AUDREY MINTZ DAYSON OF CALHOUN COUNTY AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Mrs. Audrey Mintz Dayson of Calhoun County; and

Whereas, Mrs. Dayson received her early education in the Calhoun County public school system and received her high school diploma from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School; and

Whereas, she received a Bachelors degree from Claflin College in 1950 and earned a Master's of Education degree from South Carolina State University in 1978; and

Whereas, Mrs. Dayson was a lifelong educator in the South Carolina public school system having served as: a school teacher with Schofield Elementary School in Aiken County (1950 - 1951) and with Guinyard Elementary School in Calhoun County (1951-1980); Assistant Principal of Guinyard Elementary School in Calhoun County (1980 - 1981); and the first African-American female principal in Calhoun County (1981-1982); and

Whereas, she also served as Title I Reading and Mathematics Coordinator for Calhoun County, and was a member of the Edisto Reading Council, Calhoun County Education Association, South Carolina Association of Middle School Principals, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and

Whereas, Mrs. Dayson was the former President and a Life member of the Calhoun County Branch of the NAACP, a Golden Heritage Member of the NAACP, and Secretary of the Calhoun County Democratic Party; and

Whereas, she was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she served in many capacities; and

Whereas, Mrs. Dayson was a role model and mother figure for numerous young men and women in Calhoun County and throughout the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to extend their deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Dayson's husband, Mr. Oscar Dayson, and her two children, Valerie and Eric, and her other family members and friends upon their loss. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate hereby express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Mrs. Audrey Mintz Dayson of Calhoun County, one of the most dedicated leaders in her community and this State, upon her death.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mrs. Audrey Mintz Dayson.
