A SENATE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE INDEPENDENCE AIR AND THE EXCITING DOORS THIS

 TOURISM FOR THE PALMETTO STATE.

06/03/04 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-16

S. 1299

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE INDEPENDENCE AIR AND THE EXCITING DOORS THIS LOW-FARE AIRLINE WILL OPEN IN THE AREAS OF TRAVEL FOR SOUTH CAROLINIANS AND TOURISM FOR THE PALMETTO STATE.

Whereas, Independence Air is a new low-fare airline that is beginning service to Columbia on June 23, 2004, with seven daily nonstop departures to Washington Dulles Airport with connections to twenty-four cities available by later this summer; and

Whereas, Columbia is one of thirty-five summer launch destinations, and fares from the Capital City will range from fifty-nine dollars one-way to not more than one hundred twenty-two dollars one-way; and

Whereas, no strangers to Columbia, the people associated with Independence Air originally operated Atlantic Coast Airlines, which began service in Columbia in 1999, operating our United Express service; and

Whereas, as a company, Atlantic Coast Airlines has been operating for the past fourteen years as a United Express carrier and a Delta Airlines carrier; and

Whereas, in November of 2003, Atlantic Coast Airlines first announced their plans to break away from their contract with United Airlines and to begin operating as a low-cost carrier, Independence Air; and

Whereas, the Independence Air hub at Washington Dulles Airport will be the largest low-fare hub in America this summer with three hundred daily departures; and

Whereas, this announcement marks an exciting time for Columbia travelers and a huge bonus for the State of South Carolina in attracting this low-cost airline. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Independence Air and the exciting doors this low-fare airline will open in the areas of travel for South Carolinians and tourism for the Palmetto State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Independence Air.
