A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING ARTICLE 18 TO CHAPTER 1, TITLE 1, SO AS TO REQUIRE A PERSON TO HAVE A FOUR YEAR DEGREE FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING TO HOLD OFFICE AS GOVERNOR, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, SECRETARY OF STATE, ATTORNEY GENERAL, TREASURER, SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION, COMPTROLLER GENERAL, COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE, OR ADJUTANT GENERAL.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 1 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Article 18
State Officers
Educational Qualifications
Section 1-1-1110. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person must have a minimum of a four year degree from an accredited college or institution of higher learning to be eligible to hold the office of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Superintendent of Education, Comptroller General, Commissioner of Agriculture, or Adjutant General."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
