A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEMORATE THE TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHRINE RACE HELD AT THE LAURENS MOTOR SPEEDWAY IN LAURENS COUNTY, AND TO HONOR THE SHRINERS FOR THEIR CONTINUED IMMEASURABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO SOCIETY.

Whereas, the 2006 Shrine Race held at Laurens Motor Speedway marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the event; and

Whereas, for the past twenty-five years, the Shriners of South Carolina have hosted the event to raise funds to help sick children achieve happy, healthy lives; and

Whereas, over 250,000 dollars has been raised for the Shriners Hospital from the Shrine Race; and

Whereas, past participants in the race have gone on to achieve national fame and fortune. Past drivers include: Freddy Smith, Steve Francis, Ken Shrader, Jack Pennington, and Mike Duvall; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor the South Carolina Shriners for their steadfast dedication to the health and wellbeing of countless children, and wish them every success in their upcoming 2006 Shrine Race. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Shrine Race held at the Laurens Motor Speedway in Laurens County, and honor the Shriners for their continued immeasurable contributions to society.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Steve Green, Hejaz Shrine Temple, Mauldin, South Carolina.
