 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND LOURIE'S, ONE OF THE
 MIDLANDS' OLDEST AND MOST RESPECTED MEN'S CLOTHIERS, FOR ITS NEARLY ONE
 HUNDRED YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND LOURIE'S, ONE OF THE MIDLANDS' OLDEST AND MOST RESPECTED MEN'S CLOTHIERS, FOR ITS NEARLY ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, for nearly one hundred years, Lourie's, one of the Midlands' oldest and most respected men's clothiers, has been a community landmark, first in St. George and later on Columbia's Main Street; and

Whereas, established in 1912 by Louis Lourie, this family-owned business was one of the first full-service men's clothing stores in the South; and

Whereas, in a move that proved a welcome boon to the capital city, Lourie's transferred retail operations from its original site in St. George to Columbia's Main Street in 1948; and

Whereas, Lourie's has clothed some of South Carolina's most influential men, from legislators to high-ranking executives, as well as others who simply have appreciated the quality brands and impeccable customer service the store provides; and

Whereas, understanding that the store will close on June 30, 2008, the General Assembly, on behalf of a grateful South Carolina clientele that stretches from the early twentieth century to the early twenty-first century, wishes to express thanks for Lourie's near-century of fine service, and the members wish the Lourie family and its employees, many of whom have worked for the store for thirty years or more, much success and personal fulfillment in all their future endeavors. Lourie's will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Lourie's, one of the Midlands' oldest and most respected men's clothiers, for its nearly one hundred years of service to the citizens of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Lourie family.
