A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE FORT MILL HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE YELLOW JACKETS ON WINNING THE 2023 CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Fort Mill High School wrestling team captured the Class AAAAA top prize at this year's state tournament, held at Dreher High School in Columbia on Saturday, February 11, 2023; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their delighted fans, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets defeated Summerville to claim their first-ever state wrestling crown; and

Whereas, Fort Mill, which ended the season with an enviable 27-1 record, reached the state finals this year for the first time since 1998, when the Yellow Jackets were in the AAA classification; and

Whereas, to add further sweetness to a sweet season, Head Coach Chris Brock was named 2023 South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Wrestling Coach of the Year. It was a fitting conclusion to an honored twenty-three-year coaching career at Fort Mill High (and a thirty-three-year career total), as well as a well-deserved tribute on the occasion of Coach Brock's retirement, which took place not long after the championship win; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands mental fortitude and individual excellence, Coach Brock and his skilled assistant coaches capitalized on their own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the mats; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition the Fort Mill wrestlers have brought to their school and community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Fort Mill High School wrestling team for a stellar season and congratulate the Yellow Jackets on winning the 2023 Class AAAAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Zachary Beam and Head Coach Chris Brock (now retired) of Fort Mill High School.
