A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE North Augusta High School girls varsity basketball team, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN amazing SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA Class AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the North Augusta girls basketball team of Aiken County captured the state title at the competition held at the Florence Center on Friday, March 7, 2025; and
Whereas, to the cheers
of their faithful fans, the North Augusta Lady Yellow Jackets
Whereas, a slow first quarter for both teams ended with a small 6-5 lead for the Westside Lady Rams, and both teams picked up their offense in the second quarter before taking to the lockers at the end of the first half with Westside leading 23-19; and
Whereas, in the third
quarter, North Augusta put the press on defensively, denying The Lady Rams
under the basket so that their lead scorer in the first half with 13 points,
managed only one basket in the third quarter. The Lady Yellow
Whereas, North Augusta continued
to widen the lead in the fourth quarter by six points to 41-35, and in the last
two-and-a-half minutes, the Lady Rams employed a version of the four corners,
forcing Westside into a fouling situation. The Lady Yellow
Whereas, junior wing Celena Grant led North Augusta with 17 points, and sophomore teammate and forward Ashley Walker added 10 points. Senior forward Madison McCain finished with 8 points, and junior center Messiah Williams had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks; and
Whereas, in a sport that exacts strength and speed, agility and accuracy, Head Coach Al Young and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes life principles that will endure beyond the courts; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the sense of satisfaction and esteem that the North Augusta basketball players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the North Augusta High School girls varsity basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an amazing season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Class AAAA State Championship title.
