AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 779 OF 1988, AS AMENDED,
RELATING TO LAURENS SCHOOL DISTRICTS 55 AND 56, SO AS
TO CHANGE THE BOUNDARIES OF LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOL
DISTRICTS 55 AND 56 TO CONFORM THEM WITH THE
TRANSPORTATION LINES ESTABLISHED IN 1977 BY AN
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES FOR THE
DISTRICTS; AND TO REPEAL ACT 603 OF 1984 AND TO DELETE
SECTION 4 OF ACT 241 OF 1983, BOTH RELATING TO
BOUNDARIES OF LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS 55
AND 56.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Laurens 55 single-member districts defined
SECTION 1. Section 1(B) of Act 779 of 1988, as last amended
by Act 174 of 1995, is further amended to read:
"(B) One member of the Board of Trustees of School District
55 of Laurens County must reside in and be elected from each of the
following defined single-member election districts by the electors within
each election district:

(b) District 2:4,481 +0.65%;
(c) District 3:4,532 +1.80%;
(d) District 4:4,479 +0.61%;
(e) District 5:4,423 -0.65%;
(f) District 6:4,341 -2.49%;
(g) District 7:4,468 +0.36%."
Boundaries of Laurens 55 and 56 delineated
SECTION 2. Act 779 of 1988 is amended by adding an
appropriately numbered section at the end to read:
"Section 2A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the
boundary lines defining Laurens County School Districts 55 and 56, in
conformity with transportation lines established in 1977 by an agreement
between the district boards of trustees, are as follows: beginning at the
intersection of US Hwy 221 and Greenwood County line, thence north
and east along US Hwy 221 to State Hwy 72, thence east on State Hwy
72 to the intersection of Cain Creek, thence north along Cain Creek to the
northeast branch of Cain Creek, thence from the extension of the northeast
branch of Cain Creek northeast approximately 0.9 mile to Beaver Dam
Creek, thence southeast and east to the junction of the northern branch of
Beaver Dam Creek, thence along the northern branch of Beaver Dam
Creek northwest to the origination of Beaver Dam Creek, thence northeast
approximately 1.8 miles in a straight line to the intersection of Burnt Mill
Creek and South Harper Extension (State Hwy 42), thence east along
Burnt Mill Creek to the intersection of Little River, thence north
approximately 1.5 miles along Little River, thence in a straight line
approximately 1.8 miles northeast to the intersection of State Hwy 43
(A.B. Jacks Rd.) and 45 (Milan Rd.), thence along State Hwy 43 (A.B.
Jacks Rd.) to the intersection of Barnes Rd., thence in a straight line east
approximately 0.9 mile to the intersection of North Creek, thence along
North Creek approximately 1.2 miles, thence northeast to the intersection
100 yards east of the railroad crossing and State Hwy 46 (Tarrington Rd.),
thence 100 yards east of State Hwy 46 (Tarrington Rd.) to the intersection
of State Hwy 355 (Leesville Rd.), thence north in a straight line
approximately 2.4 miles to the intersection of State Hwy 308 and State
Hwy 53, thence north to the crossroads approximately 1.5 miles at
Duncan Creek Church, thence north 1.1 miles to the bridge on State Hwy
314 and the unnamed branch, thence north along the branch to the Enoree
River."
Repeals
SECTION 3. Act 603 of 1984 is repealed and Section 4 of Act
241 of 1983 is deleted.
Time effective
SECTION 4. This act takes effect upon approval by the
Governor.
