A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING ST. PAUL BAPTIST
CHURCH OF MULLINS FOR ITS OUTSTANDING FAITH AND
EXCELLENT OUTREACH AND SERVICE TO THE
COMMUNITY.
Whereas, St. Paul Baptist Church of Mullins is one hundred years
old, has enjoyed a tremendous past, and looks forward to a glorious
future; the church is pastored by Representative Mack T. Hines, one
of the outstanding members of the General Assembly; Representative
Hines, well-known throughout South Carolina, became the pastor in
1984 and also has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of
Morris College; and
Whereas, St. Paul in 1984 held services twice a month when
Representative Hines assumed leadership of this wonderful
congregation; the church's membership has grown tremendously in
recent years, and the church now holds two worship services every
Sunday morning; and
Whereas, St. Paul recently completed a new addition named the
Christian Life Center, which cost more than a half-million dollars; the
congregation has also added a paved parking lot which enhances the
beauty of the church; and
Whereas, the church is notable for its dynamic Stewardship
Campaign, which emphasizes each individual's time, talent, and
treasure to support the church and its mission; St. Paul has a very
strong youth program which sponsors activities such as outings for
recreation and fellowship; and
Whereas, the church has grown from four choirs to the present seven
choirs, and the congregation has grown to more than 460 members
presently; and
Whereas, St. Paul has been able to purchase local properties and also
leases real estate and a parking lot to an industry located in Mullins;
and
Whereas, St. Paul reports more monies from Marion County than any
other African-American church for the support at Morris College for
Christian education; and
Whereas, St. Paul Baptist Church of Mullins clearly is one of the
leading and most active and dedicated churches in the entire Palmetto
State; it is a church which cherishes its past but which also looks
ahead; the church serves Mullins and Marion County with a great
abundance of faith, hope, and love and is widely regarded and greatly
respected and admired for its ideals and activities; truly it gives the
General Assembly much pleasure to be able to recognize this
outstanding congregation in this special manner. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, recognizes and heartily commends St. Paul Baptist Church
of Mullins for its outstanding faith and excellent outreach and service
to the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the church's dedicated congregation and excellent pastor, who is also
our distinguished and beloved colleague in the General Assembly, the
Honorable Mack T. Hines.
