Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Archie Frank Spires at the age of eighty-six on Monday, June 2, 2014, after a long and difficult battle with cancer; and

Whereas, born in Branchville on June 14, 1927, he was the sonNext of the late Agnes Mobley Spires and Archie Frank Spires, Sr., and he graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter; and

Whereas, Frank Spires served with distinction in the United States Navy during World War II as part of the elite Seabees in Guam; and

Whereas, when he returned from active duty, he worked at Courtright Chevrolet in Sumter and DuPont in Florence. He retired after working for Carolina Eastman in Columbia; and

Whereas, together with the tender help of his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Macy Saunders Spires, he reared five fine children: Lynda S. Ham of Florence; Franklin C. Spires, Ren S. Horton, and Gary M. Spires, all of Lexington; and Robin S. Barnett of Cary, North Carolina. They blessed their parents with many adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Irmo, he gave generously of his time and effort, helping the church prosper; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Frank Spires, a noble Previousson of the Palmetto State, and for the example of service and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
