Whereas, thirty-two year old Officer Alia was a seven-year veteran of the Forest Acres Police Department. On September 30, 2015, he paid the ultimate sacrifice when he was shot and killed as he and two other officers responded to a suspicious person call at Richland Mall shortly before 8 a.m.; and

Where it would be fitting and proper to permanently remember Officer Alia's bravery and commitment to selfless service to the people of South Carolina by having an intersection in the City of Forest Acres named in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the junction of Forest Drive and Beltline Boulevard in the City of Forest Acres "Officer Gregory Thomas Alia Intersection" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location that contain this designation.
