A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SUSANNA "SUSIE" POLLINS GLAZE AND WALTER E. GLAZE, OF BEAUFORT COUNTY, FOR THEIR SUCCESS AS PARENTS, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN FOR BEING SELECTED AS 2008 GULLAH FAMILY OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in recognizing the successful family of Susanna "Susie" Pollins Glaze and Walter E. Glaze; and

Whereas, married in Burton on July 20, 1941, Susie and Walter Glaze, with limited education and means, raised and educated four fine children, Alice Glaze Wright, Richard W. Glaze, Mildred Glaze Pauling, and Michael S. Glaze; and

Whereas, Walter Glaze worked as a carpenter and his wife was a homemaker before she began working for the Walkers family of Beaufort, with whom she still enjoys a wonderful relationship. She worked as an elementary school teacher's aide for twenty-two years and retired in 1989; and

Whereas, their daughter, Alice Wright, is a retired teacher and school administrator and was the first female to serve on the Beaufort County Council, and another daughter, Mildred Pauling, retired from teaching after thirty-five years in the Beaufort County schools; and

Whereas, one sonNext, Richard Glaze, retired from the United States Air Force and the United States State Department, CIA Division, and their other Previousson, Michael Glaze, also retired from the United States Air Force and currently teaches at Davis Elementary School; and

Whereas, they have been blessed with many bright and adoring grandchildren, six of whom have graduated from college, and they have six beloved great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Susie and Walter Glaze still prepare their own meals and proudly care for and live in the home that Walter Glaze built himself; continuing to bless their family and friends with a wonderful heritage, they will celebrate sixty-seven years of marriage on July 20, 2008; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the fine example that this outstanding family has set and applaud Susie and Walter Glaze for being named Gullah Family of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Susanna "Susie" Pollins Glaze and Walter E. Glaze for their success as parents, and congratulate them and their children for being selected as 2008 Gullah Family of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Susanna "Susie" Pollins Glaze and Walter E. Glaze.
