AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 14-7-1780, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE PROVIDING OF SPACE FOR THE STATE GRAND JURY TO MEET AND THE APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF THE STATE GRAND JURY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL RATHER THAN THE IMPANELING JUDGE SHALL MAKE SUITABLE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR THE STATE GRAND JURY AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF THE STATE GRAND JURY MUST BE APPROPRIATED TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE RATHER THAN TO THE JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Space and funding of state grand jury

SECTION 1. Section 14-7-1780 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 14-7-1780. The Attorney General shall make available suitable space for the state grand jury to meet. The State Law Enforcement Division also shall provide service as the state grand jury requires. The other costs associated with the state grand jury, including juror per diem, mileage, and subsistence must be paid from funds appropriated to the Attorney General's Office for this purpose by the General Assembly in the annual general appropriations act."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
