AN ACT TO CREATE A REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION FOR LAURENS COUNTY AND TO ABOLISH THE OFFICE OF COMMISSIONERS OF ELECTION AND THE REGISTRATION BOARD OF LAURENS COUNTY AND DEVOLVE THEIR POWERS AND DUTIES UPON THE REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Registration and Elections Commission for Laurens County

SECTION 1. There is created the Registration and Elections Commission for Laurens County. There are nine members of the commission who must be appointed by a majority of the Laurens County Legislative Delegation, including the Senator, who are appointed for terms of four years and until their successors are appointed and qualify. Vacancies on the commission may be filled by appointment in the manner of original appointment for the unexpired terms only. The members of the commission shall receive compensation as appropriated by the county council.

Powers devolved on new commission

SECTION 2. The office of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board for Laurens County are abolished. The powers and duties of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board are devolved upon the commission created in Section 1.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect March 1, 1989.
