AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 30-5-10, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO REGISTERS OF MESNE CONVEYANCES, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT DORCHESTER COUNTY SHALL HAVE A REGISTER OF MESNE CONVEYANCES, AND TO PROVIDE FOR HIS ELECTION BEGINNING IN 1988 AND TERM OF OFFICE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Register of Mesne Conveyances for Dorchester County

SECTION 1. Section 30-5-10 of the 1976 Code is further amended to read:

"Section 30-5-10. In every county in the State other than Aiken, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Greenville, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Spartanburg, and Sumter the duties prescribed by law for the register of mesne conveyances must be performed by the clerk of court who has all the powers and emoluments given

the register of mesne conveyances in Aiken, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Greenville, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Spartanburg, and Sumter counties. The registers of mesne conveyances in Berkeley and Dorchester counties are elected for terms of four years and until a successor is elected in the general election and qualifies."

Election

SECTION 2. The register of mesne conveyances in Dorchester County as provided in Section 1 of this act must be elected beginning in the general

election of 1988.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
