AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 40-47-655 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A LIMITED CERTIFICATE TO PRACTICE RESPIRATORY CARE AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE PAYMENT OF A FEE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Limited certificate to practice respiratory care

SECTION 1. Article 5, Chapter 47, Title 40 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 40-47-655. (A) Upon payment of a fee prescribed by the committee and approved by the board, the board may issue a limited certificate to practice respiratory care, under the direct supervision of a certified respiratory care practitioner, to an applicant who presents written documentation, verified by oath, that he is a student of a Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education approved respiratory care program and scheduled to graduate from this program within forty-five days of the date on which the limited certificate is to be issued.

(B) A limited certificate issued under this section is valid for a period of six months. Upon expiration of a limited certificate and payment of the fee prescribed by the committee and approved by the board, the board may renew the limited certificate once for a period of six months. A limited certificate must not be renewed more than twelve months from the date it was originally issued."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
