CONGRATULATING BENJAMIN C. PREISNER, III, OF BEAUFORT COUNTY, FOR WINNING THE COMPETITION IN HIS DIVISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FAIR, COMMENDING HIM FOR THIS OUTSTANDING WORK, AND ENCOURAGING HIM TO CONTINUE HIS WORK IN THIS VITAL AREA OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO POSITIVELY AFFECT THE LIVES OF MILLIONS OF PERSONS.
Whereas, Benjamin C. Preisner, III, of Beaufort County is a junior at the Hilton Head Preparatory School; and
Whereas, he has competed in the International Science Fair the last three years; and
Whereas, his science fair work has gained the attention of scientists and medical professionals particularly interested in fighting Parkinson's Disease; and
Whereas, his project entitled "Does Caffeine Have an Effect on L-Dopa Therapy in MPTP Treated C57BL6 Mice" is now in the third phase of refinement; and
Whereas, his work in this vital area of scientific discovery has the potential to positively affect the lives of millions of persons; and
Whereas, he recently won the competition in his division of the International Science Fair held in Orlando, Florida; and
Whereas, in winning this international competition he has qualified for over two thousand dollars in scholarships and financial assistance with his project; and
Whereas, also by winning this competition he has qualified to receive an all expenses paid trip to Switzerland this summer to attend the Third European Community Contest for Young Scientists; and
Whereas, in achieving this outstanding level, he has been encouraged to continue his project for another year with the potential to qualify to attend the Nobel Prize Awards; and
Whereas, the Senate is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such an outstanding young scientist. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina congratulates Benjamin C. Preisner, III, for winning the competition in his division of the International Science Fair, commends him for this outstanding work, and strongly encourages him to continue his work in this vital area of scientific discovery which has the potential to positively affect the lives of millions of persons.
