A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS OF JUDGE WALTER THOMAS LAKE OF NEWBERRY.

Whereas, Judge Walter Thomas Lake of Newberry died Tuesday, May 14, 1991; and

Whereas, born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Edwin O. and Bessie Nichols Lake. He was a graduate of Newberry College and the University of South Carolina School of Law; and

Whereas, Judge Lake practiced law in Newberry for twenty-eight years and served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1952 and from 1969 to 1974. He served on the South Carolina Industrial Commission from 1959 to 1964 and was elected as one of the first statewide Family Court judges in 1977. He served as a Family Court Judge for the Eighth Judicial Circuit until retiring in 1988; and

Whereas, he was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Prosperity; and

Whereas, surviving are his wife, Annelle Ruff Lake; a son, Walter "Chip" Lake, Jr. of Newberry; a daughter, Susan Annelle Lake of Columbia; a sister, Lois Dominick of Prosperity; and brothers, Charles Lake of Newberry and Edward Lake of Duncan. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends and admirers of Judge Walter Thomas Lake of Newberry.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family.
