TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO DOCTOR AGNES HILDEBRAND WILSON-BURGESS FOR HER DEDICATION TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOR HER FOURTEEN YEARS OF SERVICE ON THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES BOARD.
Whereas, Dr. Agnes Hildebrand Wilson-Burgess is a native South Carolinian, born in Chapin, South Carolina; and
Whereas, she is a graduate of Allen University and received her master's degree in education from Temple University; and
Whereas, she continued her academic endeavors through postgraduate studies in the United States and abroad; and
Whereas, she is an admired educator and respected humanitarian having received several honorary degrees; and
Whereas, Dr. Wilson-Burgess has received many awards and commendations through her lifetime of public and community service, including South Carolina Teacher of the Year in 1969 and runner-up National Teacher of the Year; and
Whereas, she has taught for years in South Carolina public schools and at the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she has served her fellowman in many ways including providing a home to five foster children; and
Whereas, Dr. Wilson-Burgess brought this wealth of knowledge, experience, and compassion with her when she began her service on the South Carolina Department of Social Services Board in 1977; and
Whereas, she has been a faithful, dedicated board member who has devoted herself to improving the quality of life for the children, the aged, the indigent, and the helpless citizens of this State; and
Whereas, Dr. Wilson-Burgess' term on the South Carolina Department of Social Services Board soon will be coming to a close and the Senate is pleased to have this opportunity to express its appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Wilson-Burgess for her many years of service to the State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Agnes Hildebrand Wilson-Burgess for her fourteen years of dedicated service as a board member of the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Wilson-Burgess.
