A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 16-23-20, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE PROHIBITION AGAINST CARRYING PISTOLS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT MEMBERS OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL UNITS MAY BE ISSUED PERMITS TO CARRY PISTOLS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 16-23-20 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding after item (12):

"(13) Any member of an emergency medical unit while engaged in his official duties."

SECTION 2. The last paragraph of Section 16-23-20 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Persons authorized to carry weapons pursuant to items (6), and (12), and (13) of this section may exercise such this privilege only after acquiring a permit from the State Law Enforcement Law Enforcement Division as provided for in Article 3, of Chapter 31, of Title 23."

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
