TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND LIEUTENANT COLONEL ALTON THOMAS MORRIS UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL FOR HIS TWENTY-NINE YEARS OF DEDICATED AND EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM WELL IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Morris, prior to retiring in June of 1991 was Assistant Director of the South Carolina Highway Patrol; and
Whereas, he was a native of Ninety-Six, South Carolina, when he began his service with the State Highway Patrol in 1962 with the rank of Provisional Patrolman; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Morris graduated from highway patrol school in 1962 and was assigned to Patrol District Six in Charleston; and
Whereas, after five years of exemplary service he was assigned to the Governor's Protection Detail for Governor Robert E. McNair; and
Whereas, in 1975 he was assigned to Patrol Headquarters where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on October 15, 1989; and
Whereas, his experience and knowledge were widely recognized by his colleagues in the field of law enforcement; and
Whereas, citizens of the State of South Carolina were fortunate to be blessed with a dedicated and honest law enforcement officer such as Lieutenant Colonel Morris, who gave the best of his time and talents to the State Highway Patrol; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Morris devoted his long and distinguished career to the betterment of all state troopers and law enforcement officers in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate would like to publicly recognize and commend this outstanding gentleman for his years of distinguished service as a state trooper. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend Lieutenant Colonel Morris, upon his retirement, for his dedicated and exemplary service to the State Highway Patrol for the past four decades.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant Colonel Alton Thomas Morris.
