A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 12-37-2740, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO SUSPENSION OF DRIVER'S LICENSE AND REGISTRATION FOR FAILURE TO PAY PROPERTY TAX ON A MOTOR VEHICLE, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SHALL DETERMINE THE MANNER OF NOTIFICATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 12-37-2740 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 155 of 1991, is further amended to read:

"Section 12-37-2740. The department shall suspend the driver's license and motor vehicle registration of a person violating any provision of this article only upon written notification, in a manner determined by the department, from the county treasurer or municipal clerk treasurer stating that property taxes owed by the person have not been paid within the time limit prescribed by this article."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
