TO AMEND SECTION 8-13-1180, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF A PUBLIC OFFICIAL OR EMPLOYEE, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT AN APPLICANT OR EMPLOYEE MAY NOT BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN PARTISAN POLITICAL ACTIVITY AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT OR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 8-13-1180(B) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"(B) A public official or public employee may not provide an advantage or disadvantage to a public employee or applicant for public employment concerning employment, conditions of employment, or application for employment based on the employee's or applicant's contribution or participation in partisan political activities, promise to contribute or participate in partisan political activities, or failure to contribute or participate in partisan political activities to involving a candidate, a political party, as defined in Section 8-13-1300(26) or a committee, as defined in Section 8-13-1300(6)."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
