A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF MRS. ORA RIDDLE SHEALY OF LEXINGTON COUNTY AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Mrs. Ora Riddle Shealy of Cayce died Friday, March 20, 1992; and

Whereas, she was the wife of Brist M. Shealy and co-founder, with her husband, of Shealy's Sandwich Shop, a Columbia landmark; and

Whereas, Mrs. Shealy was born in Selma, Alabama, and was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Columbia; and

Whereas, Ora Shealy was very well-known to the members of the General Assembly as hostess at Shealy's Sandwich Shoppe on Assembly Street and, later, on Devine Street behind Carolina Coliseum after a move; and

Whereas, she was a sweet and generous lady and very devoted to her countless customers and was respected and admired by all who knew her; and

Whereas, it is difficult to accept that Ora Shealy has departed this life and will no longer be present at her establishment in Columbia to offer a friendly greeting and a warm smile to the many who knew and loved her; and

Whereas, we want the members of her family and many friends to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Mrs. Ora Riddle Shealy of Lexington County and extend sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Shealy's family, in care of her husband, Mr. Brist M. Shealy.
