A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-4140, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO WEIGHT LIMITS FOR VEHICLES OPERATING ON THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM, SO AS TO PROVIDE LIMITS FOR VEHICLES OPERATING ON THE SECONDARY HIGHWAY SYSTEM.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 56-5-4140 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"(4) Except on the secondary highway system, a vehicle is limited to a weight of twenty thousand, five hundred pounds an axle, irrespective of the distance between axles and an overall maximum gross weight of fifty thousand pounds."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
