TO AMEND SECTION 3, PART 1, ACT 612 OF 1990, THE GENERAL APPROPRIATIONS ACT FOR 1990-91, RELATING TO LEGISLATIVE BRANCH APPROPRIATIONS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ADDITIONAL LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT PERSONNEL PROVIDED FOR A HOUSE MEMBER MAY WORK IN THE MEMBER'S DISTRICT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Paragraph 3.36, Part I, Act 612 of 1990, is amended to read:
"3.36 An amount of $150,000 is appropriated for the purpose of providing additional support personnel to assist House members who are not already being furnished with direct legislative assistance in the conduct of their legislative responsibilities. This amount shall must be used for staffing requirements where necessary for part time personnel. The House Operations & and Management Committee shall recommend the method of use of these funds upon approval by the Speaker. The additional personnel shall may be used only when the House is in regular or special session. At a member's request, the House Operations and Management Committee shall use any unexpended portion of a member's allotment to purchase equipment for the member's office. A member who is provided additional support personnel pursuant to this paragraph may assign the person hired to work in the member's district."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
