A BILL

TO PROVIDE FOR THE SOURCE OF PAYMENT OF THE COSTS OF REMEDIATION OF A STUDENT ENROLLED AT A STATE-SUPPORTED INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Whenever a student enrolled at one of the state-supported institutions of higher learning, as defined in Section 59-107-10, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, must undergo remediation in accordance with the laws or regulations provided for that procedure, the costs of the remediation must be paid from the funding appropriated by the General Assembly to the State Department of Education for secondary education. No costs of remediation may be paid from funding provided by the General Assembly in the annual General Appropriation Act for higher education or technical and comprehensive education or to any of the individual state-supported institutions of higher learning.

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
