CONGRATULATING THE UNION HIGH SCHOOL RIFLE TEAM FOR BEING SELECTED THE 1990 NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SMALLBORE RIFLE CHAMPION AND CONGRATULATING CHRIS MARCY FOR BEING NAMED THE NATIONAL JROTC INDIVIDUAL SMALLBORE RIFLE CHAMPION.
Whereas, the National Rifle Association has announced that the Union High School Rifle Team is the 1990 NRA National High School Smallbore Rifle Champion -- the second year in a row that the team has won the title -- and that Chris Marcy of Union High School is the National JROTC Individual Smallbore Rifle Champion; and
Whereas, the Union shooters won the 1985 National JROTC Smallbore Rifle Championship and were the National Scholastic Champion in 1989 and 1990; and
Whereas, Union High is unbeaten in scholastic competition in South Carolina since January, 1982; and
Whereas, Union was also recognized by the NRA with its fifth consecutive President's Award and the Most Improved Award for exceptional club program activities; and
Whereas, in all, in the past seven years, the Union shooters have earned five President's Awards, four Most Improved Awards, and one Achievement Award -- a record unequaled by any adult or junior shooting club in the nation; and
Whereas, the awards won by the Union High Rifle Team and by Chris Marcy reflect outstanding achievement and superior skill; and
Whereas, clearly the Union High program is the best anywhere, and all South Carolinians are extremely proud of the high honor the team has consistently brought to the State; and
Whereas, the team's and Chris Marcy's individual accomplishments are greatly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Union High School Rifle Team for being selected the 1990 National Rifle Association National High School Smallbore Rifle Champion and congratulates Chris Marcy for being named the National JROTC Individual Smallbore Rifle Champion.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Union High Rifle Team, to Chris Marcy, and to the principal of Union High School, Peach Orchard Road, Union, South Carolina, 29379-9661.
