A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-1-120 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SHALL PROVIDE FOR A STREET LIGHTING SYSTEM IN RURAL AREAS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 57-1-120. The department, at the request of a local governing body, shall provide for a street lighting system in rural areas represented by the local governing body where a system is needed for traffic safety and for the safety and security of residents and their property. The local governing body shall determine where a system is needed."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
