TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 47-3-55 SO AS TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO OWN OR POSSESS A PIT BULL DOG IN THIS STATE AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 47-3-55. No person may own or possess a pit bull dog in this State.
Any person who violates the provision of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than one thousand dollars or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect one hundred twenty days after approval by the Governor.
